The Space Vanguard Moral Code

I am not a saint by any means but I have noticed a few common moral lapses in people that generally end up causing harm, revenge, and overall lost happiness and productivity.  For example, while you should not deliberately hurt someones feelings many times people will continuously ignore the truth and tell little white lies or omit some pertinent information to try and save another person’s feelings about trivial things that cause that person to act on incorrect information and ends up causing the small initial problem being blown up into a much bigger problem. Happy people are productive people. I think that people would be happier and society would be better off if people adopted this short new moral code of conduct:

Be friendly to others but remain cautious and observant because other sentient beings are not always loyal to your friendship.

You should not lie. It is usually better to remain silent than to lie. People should occasionally, gently give their friends constructive advice to help them improve. Correct information is usually valuable to you, your friends, and to society.

You should not steal unless you are in immediate mortal danger. Then you should only take what you immediately need. Immediately acknowledge the theft to the owner, replace the item plus its rent as soon as possible.

You should not initiate unwanted force or unwanted extrasensory remote influencing against others. If they initiate unwanted force against you you can respond with reasonable force to end the immediate conflict. Society can incarcerate a bad person to give them time to think about their actions and its repercussions. A bad person should try to learn the errors of their ways so that they might not reincarnate as a bad person again in their next life.

You should not commit murder. If a bad person moves to kill you or a loved one you can kill them in self-defense if there are no reasonable other solutions.

You should practice fair business dealings and not commit fraud. You should try to develop more efficient work procedures so everyone becomes richer. Most contracts should have a stated penalty clause because unexpected situations do occur in some transactions and if you do not specifically perform your responsibility you should pay the agreed upon proportionate default penalty to the other party.

People with harmful deviant sexual practices should be exiled together as a group so that they don’t prey on members of normal society. People should use safer sexual practices. Homosexuality, bisexuality, and transexuality are generally not harmful to society. People with these dispositions should reveal it to their partners as soon as they determine it in themselves.

If you are engaged to or are living with a loved partner you should give each other at least a simple band engagement ring and then wear it to all social functions. Engagement rings are gifts that do not need to be returned to the giver.You should not marry until you are at least twenty-five years old. After the wedding the engagement rings should be called wedding rings. A married person should wear his or her wedding ring to all social functions. You should be allowed to change your own wedding ring if you pay for the change. You should not commit adultery. Completely failed marriages should be ended with divorce and the exes should try to remain civil to each other.

I think that if people followed this moral code that people would be happier and the economy would gain a 0.002% ongoing increase in GDP.
